Date of the recognition of the Republic of Georgia December 26, 1991.

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Federative Republic of Brazil were established on April 28, 1993.

2010-2011 – Georgia was diplomatically covered by the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Turkey.

  • Jose Viegas Filio - 2001-2003 (residence in Moscow);

Visits and meetings:

On February 18, 2010, the political consultations between the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the representatives of the different Ministries of Georgia were held in Tbilisi.

On April 26, 2010, bilateral meeting between the representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Brazil were held in Brasilia, Brazil. Within the framework of the meeting the prospects of political, economic and cultural relations between Brazil and Georgia were discussed and specific spheres of cooperation were defined.

In July 2010 the Embassy of Georgia was opened in the Federative Republic of Brazil. On 1 June 2011 Mr. Otar Berdzenishvili was appointed as an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Brazil.

In November 2010, during the visit of the Latin American Ambassadors at the UN, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Federative Republic of Brazil Regina Maria Cordeiro Dunlop paid a visit to Georgia.

On 10 June 2011 Brazilian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey Marcelo Jardim paid a visit to Georgia.

In June 2011 embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil was opened in Georgia. Mr. Carlos Alberto Lopes Asfora was appointed as an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

On 16 August 2011 a meeting was held between Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Jalaghania and Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Georgia Carlos Alberto Lopes Asfora.

On 25-26 August 2011, a delegation of the Georgian Foreign Ministry led by Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze paid an official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil. On 25 August Mr. Vashadze met both Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy Edison Lobão and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and National Defence Committee of the Federal Senate of Brazil Fernando Collor de Mello.

On 26 August 2011, during his official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil, Georgian Foreign Minister Mr. Grigol Vashadze met his Brazilian counterpart Mr. Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.

On 20-22 June 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio+20” was held in Rio de Janeiro, which was attended by the Georgian delegation led by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Ms. Vera Kobalia. The Georgian delegation also included the Minister of Environmental Protection, Mr. Giorgi Khachidze and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sergi Kapanadze.

On 12 March 2013 First Deputy Foreign Minister of Brazil Ms Vera Machado visited Georgia. She paid caurtesy call to the Prime Minister of Georgia Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and Foreign Minister Ms. Maia Panjikidze. The third round of bilateral political consultations between the Georgian and Brazilian Foreign Ministries was held during Ms Machado's visit. Various issues were discussed between two delegations in scope of the development of Georgian-Brazilian bilateral political, economic, legal and cultural relations as well as co-operation within international organizations.

From the 2nd to the 4th of April 2013, the Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze, paid an official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil during which she held meetings with her Brazilian counterpart, Mr. Antonio Patriota; the Minister of Culture; the Vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies; members of the Brazilian Congressional Group of Georgia's Friends; and the heads of Latin American diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia. Ms. Panjikidze also delivered a lecture at the Rio Branco Institute (an institution responsible for the selection and training of Brazil's diplomatic corps), where a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Institute and the Georgian Foreign Ministry's Training Centre; the latter was represented by its Head, Ms. Maia Kipshidze.

On the 20th of May, 2013 a delegation of Brazilian businessmen headed by the Sub-secretary General on Cooperation, Culture and Commercial Promotion of the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil Mr. Hadil da Rocha Vianna visited Georgia.

Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of External Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil on Political Consultations – signed on August 26, 2011. It is in force upon signature.

Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil on exemption of holders of diplomatic, official and service passports from Visa requirements - signed on August 26, 2011. It is in force since October 29, 2011.

Memorandum on Economic Cooperation between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil – signed on April 16, 2012. It is in force upon signature.

Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of the Federative Republic of Brazil on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in the Field of Agro-Industry – signed on October 24, 2011. It is in force upon signature.

Basic Agreement on technical Cooperation between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil - signed on August 26, 2011.

Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil on partial exemption of holders of ordinary passports from Visa requirements - signed on August 26, 2011. The Georgian side has accomplished internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the Agreement.
